Triggering audio on a joint in Mannequin

Hi,

When triggering a sound on an animation via Mannequin, there is an option to attach the sound to a joint, as seen here -

I have never been able to get this feature to work, and sounds always play from the character's root (feet). Am I doing something wrong or is it not functional?
