This pertains to commercial projects as well. The one thing you wont be provided is the Scaleform SDK to add onto the code base. This is the luxury you get if you pay the full amount for the license. As also stated prior you will need to purchase a license for video support which is separate. I am seeing what I can do about that though in the meantime. Enjoy Scaleform in the engine free on our implementation since we pick up the tab for you guys instead of making you cough up the fees.

what is meant by needing a separate license for video? do we need a scaleform video license in cryengine? is there a different way to display video? is video only video clips in the UI? Can I do cut scenes without needing a video license for scaleform?

in order to play Scaleform Video USM files you need an expensive license from Autodesk.

We wouldn't need these USM files for cutscenes or things made with the engine cinematic tool then would we? My concern was that somewhere (not sure at this point where) I read something that sounded like we would need scaleform video to do any type of video including in game cutscenes etc...

In game cutscenes are not video. The CryMovie module deals with cinematics. Unrelated to scaleform.

You only need scaleform license if you want to extend the current featureset provided by scaleformhelper module. gfx is basically a licensed video codec (for scaleform?).

I'm get a little confuse, so let me take it one thing at a time.

First, we can't use video from Scaleform because Autodesk no longer sells these licenses.
lavizh wrote:Yes you can use it commercially. That's the nice thing about the license in CRYENGINE. No additional costs when using Scaleform. Except for Scaleform Video that is.

Luckily, there is CryMovie module.

I'm pretty new so I can't distinguish between CryMovie module vs Scaleform Video. But I guess this tutorial is using Scaleform Video, right? I just has the feeling that CryMovie can't play video but play cutscene like in GTA mission cutscene.

So I want play movie in the game (I see that Street Fighter 4 plays wmv file in their game, or GTA Vice city plays mpg file as their startup screen), Can I play movie like these games did? And which technique should I use: CryMovie module or Scaleform Video (if Scaleform Video, and Autodesk no longer sells these licenses, then how can I process?)

Thanks :)

That tutorial shows how to convert video files to GIF files and plays those back via Flash, which is far from efficient. Not something you want to use.

Autodesk no longer licenses out Scaleform Video. So you can't use that.

Crytek does not provide a video playback in CRYENGINE. So you have to find a programmer and hire that person to make a custom solution for video playback.
