Launcher & Roadmap update

#1
In our on-going effort to increase transparency and keep the CRYENGINE community informed we go over the changes made to the public roadmap and today’s CRYENGINE launcher update.

First up is the CRYENGINE Launcher update 1.10.1-1. This update brings some minor aesthetic changes, such as changing the Royalty warning message when creating projects and some nice Quality of Life features including the ability to open projects in Visual Studio directly from the Launcher, and allowing you, the users, to specify the update interval of the CRYENGINE Launcher to get updates from us as often as you like.

For more information on the changes coming with this update, check out the CRYENGINE Launcher Release Notes page for 1.10.1-1 here.

Next we have a minor update to the CRYENGINE roadmap to better reflect the current development status and goals for 5.6 and beyond. In this update we see a feature pushed back to help keep 5.6 as stable as possible – namely the Animation: Attachment System Refactoring. But we also see some items moved into 5.6 – Specifically, the Area Lights Implementation, Improved Multiple View Rendering (Sandbox), and Inter-Entity Constraint Points Storage. As we strive to keep being as transparent as possible with our development goals and status of the engine we will continue to update the roadmap whenever significant changes come in.

For more information and a broader view of what to expect in the next release and beyond, check out the public CRYENGINE roadmap here.

As always, if you have any questions, comments or feedback regarding the Launcher, CRYENGINE or any other service drop us a comment here, via the forums, Facebook, Twitter or join us on Discord and chat directly with other CRYENGINE community enthusiasts and staff.

2 questions, even before the last update of the roadmap and in general the forum was talking about it, in 5.6 the technology should have come Customizable Post Effect. This technology apparently should replace Image Nodes, 95% of which no longer work. But I do not see this technology not in 5.6 not in 5.7. They simply forgot about it but Image Nodes never work!
And there will be an article about new technologies before the release? I am very interested Multilayered Microfacet Materials, this is a more advanced rendering of shaders, to create more realistic materials with several layers, for example Car paint or Varnished parquet. It is very interesting how it will look in the engine, a small article with examples before the release, it would be very interesting to see

Customizable Post Effect Pipeline has been moved back to Research & Development it seems. Maybe it requires more research, don't know. For all we know after 5.6 is released the roadmap might be updated again and perhaps it will be moved to 5.7. Would be nice to have a solution like this.

I have two small wishes for this release: 1) a small improvement for FBX Importer. It doesn't want to be friends with the Touch Bending system. In my case the system works after importing vegetations, but branches return to their original pose in a flash without any stiffness. And during debugging there is no any bone helper drawing on my screen. In case with Max exporter and BCRY exporter for Blender it's ok. I think, the importer has not been tested yet on the vegetation setup. 2) I think, the Vegetation Editor has a problem with the Cloth Merged Mesh Deform system. The "cloth" parts of meshes look like they are frozen and only sometimes redraw for one frame after tweaking something in vegetation settings in the editor. Outside of the Vegetation Editor it works fine. Thanks for your attention!
