For C++, you would use an IGameFramework Listener.
Then your implementation of the interface would override the OnSaveGame(ISaveGame*) method.

You can register the listener class via

gEnv->pGameFramework->RegisterListener(<Class Pointer>, "<A Name>", FRAMEWORKLISTENERPRIORITY_GAME);
Make sure to unregister the listener at the right time also.
