Can you update this to 5.4 with vs 2017 switching engine and compiling it, doesn't seems to work with the c++ template and the generated c# solution wont build with 2017

Not until 5.4 is officially released I'm afraid :P. But I will take a look at it as soon as 5.4 is officially out, which will (hopefully) include building sandbox as well.

Explanation;
Thing about the preview is it can require some custom tweaking to build etc. With vs 2017 support still being worked on, although it is possible, it can require some manual modifications or configuration changes to succeed and I refuse to put any "Workarounds" in a startup guide (as they could easily become irrelevant).

----

My advice if you are keen on testing the preview of 5.4 is to create or join in on one of the active topics on the matter, hopefully the teething issues will be resolved for the big release.

cheers!

PS;
I'm not venturing into C# yet (if ever) I'm afraid :P.

Yeah I understand hopefully they will release it soon. the reason i want to go with 5.4 so early is the support of vs2017

c. Preparing for Release/Distribution to consumers

-- Coming Soon --
This is a rather large topic since it encompasses a whole lot of optimization procedures, compression/conversion etc. Essentially the same procedure as the development package once you have optimized your data/assets.
You will want to use RC (check docs) to convert any assets still in intermediary form (i_caf) or even raw form (tif), remove any redundant assets, rebuild your shader cache for your entire game (check docs), pak and encrypt all required engine/game assets and data, secure the engine binary by building in release mode without any profiling/debugging options etc and then finally package your data as described above for the development packages, although the cfg/plugin etc should be hardcoded now inside the engine code.

I'm really looking for the section c. Preparing for Release/Distribution to consumers. Awesome tutorial :)

Thanks, when I get some time I will go over these steps in my free time.
This is mainly due to the fact that releasing a game binary is rather a specific and will be the most detailed topic in this guide. It may even warrant a separate thread.

For now the general steps would be to get your project running in a 'Release' built engine, securing your assets via encryption and generating any and all used shaders for the shader cache.

e. Building and testing your local engine
The solution just keeps building fail because of the errors:

Code: Select all

Cannot open include file: 'd3d12.h': No such file or directory (compiling source file E:\Source\CRYENGINE\solutions_cmake\win64\Code\CryEngine\CrySystem\CrySystem_uber_0.cpp) CrySystem Cannot open include file: 'pix_win.h': No such file or directory (compiling source file E:\Source\CRYENGINE\Code\CryEngine\RenderDll\StdAfx.cpp) CryRenderD3D11 warning treated as error - no 'object' file generated (compiling source file E:\Source\CRYENGINE\solutions_cmake\win64\Code\CryEngine\CrySystem\CrySystem_uber_4.cpp) CrySystem
I'm using Windows 8.1 so I disable DirectX 12, VR. in CMake, but I still got these errors. Where did I go wrong? Thanks.

Make sure you install the Windows SDK, specifically 10.0.10586.0. It is available in the Visual Studio Installer.
Also, are you building in Debug/Profile or Release configuration? With VS 2015 or VS2017?

Thanks

Thanks for your response,

What a bummer! I'm using Windows 8.1 so my Windows SDK version is 8.1.xxxxx. Maybe this is the problem (I don't want to use Windows 10)
Also, are you building in Debug/Profile or Release configuration? With VS 2015 or VS2017?
I'm building in Profile configuration with VS 2015.
